EMPAQ® metrics are ratios (i.e. numerators over denominators) that can be used to calculate the effectiveness of health and productivity management programs. They establish a consistent method for measuring cost, utilization and other performance issues internally and for comparison within an industry sector. EMPAQ® metrics and definitions have been developed in the areas of cost, employee satisfaction, productivity, overall quality of life, program efficiency and outcomes.

Standardized metrics are provided for eight different types of benefit programs, which include:

This is an example of an EMPAQ® Short-Term Disability (STD) Metric:

Metric Ratio Explanation
Average Claim Duration
Average Claim Duration = Number of Calendar Days (Duration) Associated with Closed STD Claims

Total Number of Closed STD Claims
This metric calculates the number of calendar days from the first day that an individual becomes disabled for work due to an STD-covered illness or injury through the last date of the claim.

When data (i.e. numerator and denominator values) are submitted to EMPAQ® through its secure, online data submission tool, the metrics are automatically calculated for you and reported in the EMPAQ® Data Integrity Report. This report provides the calculations and definitions of the metrics and displays the data in an easy-to-view, snap shot format. Its purpose is to allow participants to review and edit the data before it is approved for benchmarking. The EMPAQ® Data Integrity Report is available to participants immediately after data submission.

After data are verified, it is analyzed by industry sector and by total participants for benchmarking. The data you submit to EMPAQ® are what drives the EMPAQ® Benchmarking Report your organization receives.

Employers are invited to submit their company's data or to arrange for a supplier to submit data on their behalf. As a member benefit, all Business Group members can submit data at no cost, and those members who submit data on behalf of their clients can also submit for members at no charge.
