About Health Management Programs
Health Management Programs encompass an array of employer-sponsored program offerings including health risk appraisals (HRAs), biometric screening, wellness programs, health coaching, disease management, and case management. Health management programs may be available to an entire workforce population or targeted to specific employee segments. A health management program can be delivered directly by employers, through health insurance programs, or by selected vendors. The EMPAQ® health management metrics focus specifically on workforce population programs, rather than those targeted to specific groups.
For EMPAQ® purposes, the HRA is defined as a questionnaire that collects information on lifestyle, health behavior and personal/family medical history. Screening is defined as an employer-sponsored initiative during which laboratory tests or other physical measurements are conducted. This includes assessment of any health indicator beyond the HRA.
EMPAQ® Metrics
EMPAQ® metrics are ratios (i.e. numerators over denominators) that can be used to calculate the effectiveness of health and productivity management programs. They establish a consistent method for measuring cost, utilization and other performance issues.
